Policies and Procedures

5th Grade Procedures 2014-2015

      1.  Homeroom:
§  Get your spiral notebook for homeroom and needed books for the first class.
§  Enter the room quietly and be seated at your desk.
§  Take care of any necessary items in the classroom: sharpen pencils, etc.
§  Hold on to any items that need to be turned in until they are asked for…DO NOT HAND ANY ITEMS TO THE TEACHER. (Money needs to be in an envelope with your name on it & purpose for the money.)
§  Begin Morning Work for the day.
§  Once Morning Work is completed, read in a book.

  1. Changing classes:
§  Teachers will dismiss you from the classroom, not a bell or a time.
§  You must go QUICKLY and QUIETLY to your locker to get the materials that you will need for your next class.
§  This is your opportunity to go to the restroom and to get water.  You must do these things in a timely manner and remain quiet. (If you are returning to class from Fine Arts and you pass by the restroom, you must stop then.  You can not come down the hall and go back to the restroom.)
§  Being late to class will result in a conduct mark.

  1. Pencil Sharpener:
§  Keep 2 sharpened pencils with you at all times. (If you have a mechanical pencil, you must have plenty of lead. Teachers do NOT provide lead.)
§  Only one person is allowed at the pencil sharpener at a time.
§  If the teacher is speaking or teaching, you are not allowed to go the pencil sharpener.  When she is finished, you may go to sharpen a pencil one at a time without having to ask for permission.

  1. Trash:
§  If the teacher is speaking or teaching, keep all trash at your desk until she is finished.  Once she is finished, you may quietly go to the trash can to throw trash away.  You do not have to ask for permission.
§  DO NOT THROW ANYTHING INTO THE TRASH CAN.  THROWING TRASH OF ANY KIND WILL RESULT IN A CONDUCT MARK.

  1. Questions during class:
§  Sit quietly with your hand raised and the teacher will come to you or call on you to answer your question.
§  DO NOT CALL OUT THE TEACHER’S NAME.

  1. If you are absent:
§  Check each the blog to obtain your assignments. 
§  Blog Addresses

§  Parent will email the homeroom teacher to make arrangements to pick up any needed books
§  We will NOT send a list of assignments down with books. You MUST check the blog to obtain your assignments
§  Check the make-up work folder when you return.  Any make-up work that needs to be done at school will be found in that folder.
§  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY WORK YOU MISSED.  TEACHERS WILL NOT COME TO YOU TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU MISSED!!!
§  If the blog has not been updated, call a friend!




  1. Copying homework from the homework chart:
§  Copy each item exactly as it appears on the chart.
§  Take home your assignment pad EVERY night.
§  Complete the homework as instructed.

  1. When you forget something at home:
§  You may NOT use teacher phones, cell phones, or office phones to call home.

  1. Taking an AR test in the classroom:
§  You may take an AR test at the end of class if you have extra time to begin homework.
§  You may only test from 8:15-3:15

  1. Locker checks:
§  You must be sure you get anything you need from your locker before class begins.  If you must go out to your locker, you will receive a locker check. 
§  You MAY NOT go to your locker for homework.  Any homework that is not in the classroom at the time that class begins is a homework check
§  Locker check penalties are as follows:
First locker check in a week                             15 minutes out of recess
Second locker check in a week                      Silent lunch
Third locker check in a week                           Detention

  1.  If a student owes money to the cafeteria, you can’t charge.  If you have to borrow money from the teacher you may only purchase the hot plate and water.
