Dear Parents,
We are delighted that your
child is in 5th grade this year. With your encouragement, your child
will participate in and enjoy many exciting and rewarding experiences this
academic year.
Since lifelong success
depends in part on learning to make responsible choices, we have developed a
classroom discipline plan which guides every student to make good decisions
about his/her behavior. Your child deserves the most positive educational
environment possible for his/her growth, and we know that together we will make
a difference in this process. The plan below outlines our rules, positive
recognition for appropriate behavior, and consequences for inappropriate
behavior. They are:
RULES:
1. Follow
directions the first time given.
2. Be
in seat by 8:15 a.m.
3. Have
materials ready at the appropriate time and place.
4. Keep
hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. No
teasing or name calling.
POSITIVE RECOGNITION:
To encourage students to
follow these classroom rules, we will recognize appropriate behavior with
praise, small rewards, treats, and special privileges.
CONSEQUENCES:
If a student chooses to break
a rule the following steps will be taken:
1st
time Warning
2nd
time 15
minutes out at recess
3rd

4th
time 40
minutes after school detention & parent
communication
5th

SEVERE

Each day the
slate is clean and we start over. If a
student does not respond to these procedures, a special behavior plan will be
developed for him/her with more severe consequences.
*
Per administration, in any given 9 week period if a student reaches the half
way mark between an S and N or an N and a U, they will receive detention.
Be assured
that our goal is to work with you and to ensure the success of your child this
year. Please read and discuss this
classroom discipline plan with your child, then sign and return the attached
form.
Sincerely,
5th
grade teachers
